The term "Easter" comes from the Indo-European language area and is translated as "dawn" Through the centuries many Easter traditions have developed which are still very popular today. Already in the 12th century eggs were consecrated, the first mention of painted Easter eggs dates back to the 13th century.

Traditionally, on the day of Holy Saturday, the last day of the 40-day fasting period, at the resurrection mass the food in the church get blessed by the priest. The "dedicated meat" as it was called, is usually a juicy ham.
