Giovanni Guidi was discovered at the age of 12 by trumpeter Enrico Rava, two generations his senior and probably the most internationally renowned Italian jazz musician. For many years, Guidi was a permanent member of Rava's bands as a pianist. And so, alongside colleagues such as Stefano Bollani, the now 39-year-old developed into one of his country's masterminds. He soon released his own albums on the Munich-based ECM label, with internationally renowned accompanists such as the American bassist Thomas Morgan and the French woodwind player Louis Sclavis. Most recently he played with the Munich-based saxophonist Matthieu Bordenave - to be experienced live at the Night Club. Now Guidi is continuing his international collaborations with the British star saxophonist Andy Sheppard, who has played with Steve Swallow and Carla Bley and recently caused a stir with his recordings with the Norwegian guitarist Eivind Aarset and the French bassist Michel Benita.
