If you are looking for a successor to the gospel queens Mahalia Jackson and Esther Marrow, then Pat Klipp belongs on the shortlist. The singer from Alabama, who has lived in Germany for many years and grew up with the spirituals and gospels of the American South as a child, was the lead singer of the Jackson Singers and the Clara Ward Singers before joining the ranks of the best and most successful gospel groups with her own American Gospel Train. The name "Gospel Train" is a tribute to the black activist Harriet Tubman, a black activist who helped slaves to freedom with her "Underground Rail Road" movement. And used church hymns to convey messages. Klipp interprets the original melodies of African-Americans from the southern states in her own free way and has thus become one of the most sought-after blues, R&B, gospel and jazz singers in Europe. She is also well known in Germany thanks to her many screen appearances, from the Rudy Carrell Show or Alfred Biolek's programs to the film "Le Nouveau Monde" by Alain Courneau.
