He will be 88 this year, and pianist Joe Haider has been in the service of jazz for 65 years. For a long time in Munich: After apprenticeship years in the "Nachteule" and at the Richard Strauss Conservatory, he became a pillar of the scene in perhaps its best period: as house pianist at the "Domicile" and director of the short-lived Bavarian Radio jazz ensemble. He is a formative figure not only as an early European modernizer of American jazz, but also as a jazz teacher. In 1974 - when there was still no university jazz education in the whole of Germany - he founded the Munich Jazz School, and in 1984 he became the director of the famous Swiss Jazz School in Bern. He regularly returned to his old home with projects, now for the first time to the Bayerischer Hof. He himself describes what he will be performing: "As a farewell (?) to my long career, I am treating myself to something very special: a wonderful formation with seven first-class Swiss musicians and great music! Modern, swinging jazz with well-known arrangements and original compositions."
