The harmonica is a rare instrument in Jazz, as it requires here more complex rhythmic, harmonic, and improvisational skills than, for example, the pure blues harp. The young but already seasoned Israeli harmonica virtuoso Yotam Ben-Or has this special talent and joins the short list of jazz harp players alongside greats such as Toots Tielemanns, Howard Levy and Grégoire Maret. His new, third album „Impermanence“ underscores his exceptional status. It is not only the virtuosity and ease with which Ben-Or masters his small instrument that impresses, but also his distinctive individual style. As on none of his previous albums, the formative influences in his career come together harmoniously here: the roots in the Mediterranean music culture of his native Israel, the contemporary American jazz he absorbed while studying in his adopted home of New York, and his penchant for Latin American and Caribbean music. Many similarities with Grégoire Maret, the current figurehead of the harmonica in Jazz, who became Ben-Or's teacher and mentor in New York. Ben-Or's accompanists also guarantee an extraordinary evening: the equally highly regarded guitarist Shachar Elnatan and drummer Ziv Ravitz, who has been one of the most sought-after drummers on the international scene for years and has worked with stars from Shai Maestro and Avishai Cohen to Vincent Peirani, Yaron Herman, and Dominic Miller.
