Sullivan Fortner - piano
Tyrone Allen – bass
Kayvon Gordon - drums
New Orleans-born pianist Sullivan Fortner became known as Cécile McLorin Salvant's accompanist, a role for which he received the first of his two Grammys in 2019. But least since the release of his first solo album in 2023, he now is also recognized as one of the hottest, most versatile, and most creative jazz musicians on the planet. Whether he's swinging around a theme from Bizet's “Carmen,” paying homage to Thelonious Monk in one of his own compositions, sprinkling in a touching ballad by director Spike Lee's mother, rescuing greats like Cedar Walton and Woody Shaw from oblivion with their rarely played compositions, or building a bridge to Cuba - the 38-year-old is able to make meaningful associations and take surprising turns like no other, thanks to his classical training, his thorough knowledge of jazz history, and his exuberant creative enthusiasm. Not least in the classic jazz trio formation with Tyrone Allen on bass and Kayvon Gordon on drums, this will also result in great, timelessly swinging piano entertainment at the Bayerischer Hof, which confidently navigates its own path through American jazz.
