Daniel Garcia Diego - piano
Reinier «El Negrón» Elizarde - bass
Michael Olivera – drums

Daniel García Diego has made a name for himself in Germany as a “flamenco-jazz pianist.” But that would be an unfair oversimplification of his abilities. Trained in classical music at the conservatory in his hometown of Salamanca and later in jazz at Berklee College of Music under his mentor Danilo Pérez, he possesses both a brilliant technique and a versatile, visionary expressiveness. This is evident in his collaborations with Arturo Sandoval, Antonio Lizana, Dhafer Youssef, and most recently Andreas Schaerer. This is also evident in the trajectory of his own trio, founded in 2013, on which his primary focus lies. Bassist Reinier “El Negron” and drummer Michael Olivera are among the Cuban musicians who found a second home in Spain - bringing with them their outstanding musical training and influences. Thus, the flamenco elements in this trio have gradually become more subtle and stand alongside a whole range of inspirations from modern jazz, classical music, pop, and influences from the Caribbean and the Middle East. And as Daniel Garcia Diego already noted on the last album “Wonderland”: “It’s not just about the music. We also want to invite listeners to explore different facets of human nature.” That remains true, as Garcia Diego will likely incorporate pieces from his brand-new solo album into his Jazz Sommer performance.
