So far, Fabiola Mendez has primarily captivated audiences in her native country Puerto Rico and in the United States. With her soft, haunting voice and her playing of the ten-string cuatro - Puerto Rico’s national instrument - she is the only graduate of Berklee College of Music to date to have studied it as her primary instrument. Her mission is to explore her culture, her heritage, and her identity. In 2022, she even directed the documentary “Negrura” on topics such as colorism and discrimination. On stage, too, she tells stories by blending the folk music of her homeland with all kinds of styles, from folk and pop to jazz. Since Mendez collaborated with Bad Bunny, the hip-hop star and currently most successful pop artist has been a friend and supporter of hers. At Jazz Sommer, the Quincy Jones Award winner, Emmy nominee, “Latin Artist of the Year 2023” and official ambassador of the “Puerto Rican Day Parade” in New York City is making her first foray into Europe.
