On the first evening of the Organ Summit at the Bayerischer Hof, the two uncrowned kings of Munich's organists will meet in the first of two bands specially assembled for the occasion. Matthias Bublath, who is also an outstanding pianist, composer, and arranger, spent nine years in New York learning, among many other things, everything that constitutes the tradition of jazz organ. Whether in a trio or with his Eight Zylinder Big Band—the only one in Germany centered around a Hammond organ—Bublath always proves that he is an unrivaled groove master and improviser on the manuals. André Schwager is also an all-rounder with a focus on the organ. The pianist, guitarist, sound engineer, and producer has played with big names such as Mick Hucknall and Klaus Doldinger, but his great love belongs to his powerful organ projects such as Soulkraut. And that's not all: Christian Lettner and Guido May, two of Germany's best and most dynamic drummers, will be joining forces this evening, along with Philipp Schiepek and Paul Brändle, two of the best guitarists.
