Discover all the construction projects by interior designer, art collector, and antique dealer Axel Vervoordt at a glance. Special attention is given to the new reception area of the Hotel Bayerischer Hof in Munich - the latest and tenth construction project realized by Axel Vervoordt.
Reception area
The redesign of the reception area gives the hotel a new architectural focal point. The entrance hall and reception combine historical features with new elements to create a spacious, peaceful space. Balanced proportions, clear structures, and a minimalist, almost sacred design create timeless elegance and an atmosphere of calm and space. Natural materials, traditional crafts, and selected works of art emphasize the harmonious interplay of history, materiality, and the present.

Panorama Suite 7
Panorama Suite 7 is a harmoniously designed one-bedroom suite with a living room, bar, and integrated kitchen, featuring historic furniture from the 18th and 19th centuries. A loggia with a view over Munich is the highlight. The suite can be expanded into a two- or three-bedroom suite, offering up to 170 square meters of living space.

Atrium
Axel Vervoordt redesigned the atrium into an open meeting place with a fresh new look. The visual integration of the glass dome, a harmonious color scheme of green, blue, and yellow tones, and 16 painted panels by artist Angel Vergara gave the room a contemporary, artistic dimension. The redesign also marks the 15th anniversary of the collaboration between Axel Vervoordt and the Hotel Bayerischer Hof.

Palais Montgelas
In 2022, Axel Vervoordt carefully renovated the 14 historic event rooms in the Palais Montgelas: carpets were replaced with parquet flooring, a new color concept was implemented, and works of art were recurated. Antiques, fabrics, and art from the Volkhardt family collection characterize the rooms. Historical highlights such as Hermann Kaspar’s wall painting, the Alexander Cycle tapestry, the “Rosso di Verona” natural stone, and one of Europe’s longest chandeliers were preserved. The result: timeless elegance in harmony with history.

Palais Keller
In 2019, Axel Vervoordt carefully redesigned the Palais Keller: historic vaults and masonry were restored to their original condition and complemented with selected antique elements. The result is a tranquil, simple place for modern interpretations of Bavarian cuisine. Highlights include an antique wooden ceiling from the 18th century, a customized industrial window, the refectory with oak paneling and a work by Bosco Sodi, and the original Tyrolean parlor from 1823 with seating for 18.

The South & North Wing with the Penthouse Garden Suite
Between 2016 and 2018, a new section of the building was constructed above the Komödie restaurant in the Hotel Bayerischer Hof. This created 29 new units: 23 Deluxe Double Rooms, 5 Deluxe Junior Suites, and the Penthouse Garden Suite, which is over 350 square meters in size and features a green terrace surrounding the entire suite and a panoramic view of Munich. The interior follows design principles such as wabi, artempo, and the use of authentic, natural materials.

Palace Hall and Alcove
Renovated in 2016, the Palace Hall (185 sqm) with adjoining alcove (63 sqm) is a space designed by Axel Vervoordt featuring a glass roof, antique doors, custom-made shelves made of old walnut and slate, and carefully curated art and decorations from the Volkhardt family archive. Earth-toned linen sofas designed by May Vervoordt and an art presentation featuring 11 paintings characterize the distinctive Vervoordt style.

ASTOR@CINEMA LOUNGE
Following the success of the new restaurants, Innegrit Volkhardt and Axel Vervoordt commissioned the design of an exclusive private cinema. The concept: centrally located, no waiting times or searching for parking, with service and maximum comfort. Subtle colors and fine materials create a calm, elegant atmosphere, while 38 seats on comfortable lounge sofas provide a cinema experience with living room comfort.

Atelier
The Atelier is an exclusive, intimate restaurant with 25 seats, complemented by a separable “Privé” (8 seats) and the small “Silent Garden” (6 seats). Culinary excellence from top chefs: Following Steffen Mezger, Jan Hartwig led the Atelier to three Michelin stars before Anton Gschwendtner took over in 2021 and immediately received two Michelin stars. The kitchen is currently under the temporary management of chef Valentin Krehl, who impressively demonstrates that culinary delights continue to be transformed into works of art on the plate.

Garden
The former Garden has been transformed into two restaurants: the gourmet restaurant Atelier** and the new Garden. The Garden offers 50 seats inside the conservatory, 40 seats outside under a pergola, and a Garden Salon with a fireplace and approx. 20 seats. Works of art by Sadaharu Horio adorn the rooms, while the cuisine focuses on modern interpretations of classics with southern influences.
Axel Vervoordt is one of the most influential interior designers and art dealers in the world. After intensive research for a new luxury concept, Innegrit Volkhardt discovered him through a private invitation and, after much persuasion, won him over for one of his rare public projects. With the Atelier and Garden restaurants, Vervoordt expanded the definition of luxury at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof. His coveted style is based on authenticity, respect for tradition, and a calm, warm aesthetic—in keeping with his motto: “I love everything that is very real.”
